Houdini HDA · Workflow design · Environment tools
The challenge
Rebuilding scattering networks for each job creates inconsistent controls and unnecessary setup work. I wanted a familiar system I could reuse across Houdini productions.
The approach
I packaged Houdini’s existing scattering building blocks into one HDA, separating distribution, asset choice, orientation and scale. Density and size modifiers support local art direction; variant weights, patches and seeds control the mix of assets. The tool can output either copied geometry or placement points for downstream use.
The value
The value is consistency: the same controls and attribute conventions carry from one environment to the next. It provides a repeatable base for dressing scenes while leaving artists control over where objects appear, which variants are used and how they sit on the surface.
